Jay Gatsby   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  This book is called The Great Gatsby. The character that I chose from this book is Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatsby an extremely rich man who lives in a giant mansion. His home is located on the West Egg and is â€Å"rented for twelve or fifteen thousand a season.† (9). Jay Gatsby was born in Minnesota and had two very poor farming parents. His real name was James Gatz but his good friend Dan Cody gave him the name Jay Gatsby. Dan Cody also taught Gatsby everything about being wealthy. When Dan Cody died Gatsby inherited a small amount of his wealth. About this time Gatsby became intimate and fell in love with Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby then had to leave for war and when he returned he was sent to Oxford. Gatsby then spent the rest of his money to go and visit Daisy in Louisville but he had then learned that Daisy had given up on Gatsby. She had married a rich man named Tom. This is when Gatsby realized that the only way that he could win Daisy over was to become wealthy so he promised himself that he would become rich. Gatsby then meets his mentor Meyer Wolfsheim. His mentor Meyer Wolfsheim is the person who is responsible for Gatsby’s wealth. He helps Gatsby become a millionaire by helping him in illegal activities such as bootlegging. This is where Jay Gatsby’s tragic flaw begins. After he finds out that Daisy married Tom because he was rich he figures that he needs to be rich in order to have her so he begins to become a millionaire just for Daisy. Everything he does after this point is all for Daisy Buchanan. Saturday night Gatsby throws a very extravagant party were all of his so called friends come to. Internet Is a Double-Edged Sword Essay

Internet already becomes a part of most humen’s life. Most people would like to sit in front of a computer many hours. Young people would like to share their information on facebook than their parents. Knowing how internet effect people’s relationships to other people is important, because there is nothing can replace relationships in human’s life and very hard to fix it. First internet will increase loneliness. Acording to stoll, people who would like to spend time on internet will become more lonely. â€Å"For every hour each week spent online, this group sharnk by about 4 percent.†(Iso, 1) It is very easy to understand. We only have 24hr each day. When a person spends more time on internet, he would spend less time with his family or real life friends. Those people who live with that person in real life will start leaving him. However, those people who found out on the social network site will not stay online all the time. During the blank time, this person will feel lonely. There is nothing in his life. When a person spends more time on internet, enjoy his own small world more, he is also kept away from outside by internet. Most people know, when those people who are falling in internet. they will not respond to any one, refuse any thing not relate with them, not eating any food until really hungry. If any one tries to stop those people in the middle, they will be yalled or scolded. The effect is not very obsiver in the beginning. It will stack. Like a snow ball becomes bigger and bigger. Under this mode, people are selfcentered. People will be lonely by selfcenter, and be isolated by other people. Second, interenet is almost the fastest way to transfer messages and informations. It is good and bad. It is like a double-edged sword. Different way to use it, it will creat differet endings. Many scandals are released on internet first, than many people share or retwitter it. The imformation will not be able to control any more. The problems related with scandals will be solved by the pressure from publick opinion. Presidential election is a best very good example. Romney had almost as many supporters as Obama. After a vedio about a meeting between Romney and many rich supporters in a restauarnt, he lost a lot of supporters instantly. Romney and some of his suppoters’ relationships were totally over at that time. Romney tried to changed those supporters†™ mind about that vedio, but it is way too hard to fix it. On another hand, there are not only bad enddings. Those singers or movie starts use social network site to share their messages to their fans. Internet reduces the distence between people’s relationship. Those famous people would not be easy to meet in real life. Internet is the best way. Few weeks ago, there was a news related with a family and Facebook. A lady send a none sence messages on Facebook. Her hasband immidently realized his wife may suffered a heart attack. He called 911 and drive back to home. Because he descovered it early, his wife get rescued. Internet helped him protected this relationship. Thrid, internet is place can creat relationship. In 20th century, many people start trying to find their wife or husband on social network site or online games. The relationship is very to creat and start compear with real life. People do not have to scare to be refused by a girl or a guy online. No one is watching beside. People will not feel too lose about refuse. Many girls or guys will accept it most time. They would like to give a try, because the person can be the right one. The relationship looks beautiful but it is made by glass. We never know how much lies covered by internet. It can be a fake relationship. Internet is only a tool. It will effect user and their relationship to other people. It is a knock-on effect. People is one who kick it. It still people effect relationship. The only difference is the way use internet.

It is its role to therefore ensure it abides by the law, the communitys norms, international norms and ethical standards in general. It should ensure it embraces the impact of any actions it partakes in to all stakeholders it undertakes business with, who could include: foremost the environment; bearing in mind we live in a world greener than ever before, consumers, communities, employees, and other members in the general public sphere. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Corporate Social Responsibility Has Many Benefits To A Business" essay for you Create order CSR has very many benefits to a business that include: The costs are reduced and efficiency increased, with the utility bills reduced and efficiency increased the profitability of the company is improved. With a practicable Corporate Social Responsibility policy this is an easy achievement (Mallin, 2009, p.23). Brand reputation is of great importance to any business .This can be improved by making the Corporate Social Responsibility policy well known and practicable. Corporate Social Responsibility policy help in improving the management of risks this entails the use of corporate governance procedures whose one great component is such a policy. Internal and external relationships are also strengthened where a company has a practical Corporate Social Responsibility policy Corporate Social Responsibility Scandals A responsible organization recognizes the side-effects its activities which include its products, operations and or its services caused on the parties it covers in its policy. It is its responsibility therefore to contribute to the society it operates. It should carry on its activities appropriately as stipulated in the policy, actions of which should not only be over but also above the compliance with the minimum legal requirement. (Banerjee ,2007, p.43) A Corporate Social Responsibility policy scandal occurs when a company trashes its policy on the same or does not take the appropriate actions in response to a particular activity. BP for example, experienced a scandal that resulted from irresponsible behavior to an oil catastrophe resulting from an oil spill from an explosion at an offshore drill rig that brought its consumers to protest for the environment was at compromise. However sometimes something goes terribly wrong and the corporate social responsibility campaign fl ops before its very face, a company not in compliance with its corporate social responsibility policy signifies one treading down the path of failure at it. There is a growing public demand for organizations to take into account practicable corporate social responsibility when planning business operations that are socially responsible. This could result in: Financial burden in fines bad publicity, Long-term effects such as brand and reputation degradation. A multinational corporation can ensure that its CSR policy is not just a theoretical document, but rather a practical means of ensuring the future and safety of the communities in which they are working by the application of quite a few strategies that spawn from the design, the approach and the implementation of the corporate social responsibility policy. (Anderson, 1989, p.26). Approach The organization can use different approaches in the design o a corporate social responsibility policy that include: Philanthropy. This is especially the case where a multinational that is undertaking business in poor communities. It involves the running of running of projects that improve the lives of the locals. These include the running of water projects, building of schools and hospitals that directly benefit the locals by bringing essential services to the people this builds the communities relationship with the multinational and the businesses they engage in can go on very smoothly. (Mallin,2009, p.77) Majority of such CSR projects are undertaken in Africa, other examples being adult educational facilities and HIV/AIDS enlightening programs. The Shell Foundation for instance started an Early Learning Center at Flower Valley in South Africa to educate children in the community and for development of skills for adults Direct incorporation of CSR Another CSR approach widely adopted is the incorporation of CSR strategies in the multinationals core business strategies, such as in the employment of people from the community it operates in except for a few expatriates that do complex jobs whose skill is not available locally. Some multinationals like this approach as it improves the skills of the community. Creating Shared Value. This is the adoption of a principle of interdependence of social welfare and corporate success. The multinational needs an adept government, sustainable resources, and above all a healthy, skilled and educated workforce while on the other hand. A government on the other hand requires businesses such as multinationals to raise revenue from taxes and other charges. The society on the other hand needs thriving businesses that are profitable and also competitive to create income, philanthropy opportunities and tax revenues. (Banerjee, 2007, p.92) Design The design of a CSR policy should be guided by quite a number of aspects so as to ensure practicability in the policy. The principles that govern the design of the policy are as: The policy should respect human rights so as to avoid friction with the law and the community this is especially the case where the activities of the multinational could cause conflict with the communities. A case in point is the Niger Delta where the Royal Dutch Shell and Chevron Corporation faced or still face CSR crises for taking up land belonging to the Ogoni people after they were forced out by the government so they could drill crude. The Royal Dutch has in the past been fined for crimes against humanity. The CSR policy should be so designed to enhance human capital by creation of employment and encouraging their training and further education. The CSR policy should cover employees in a manner that no unfair, disciplinary or discriminatory measures are taken against them whenever they repor t to the management or other relevant authorities, in good faith, practices that encroach company policy or infringe the law. (Paetzold, 2010, p.45) The CSR policy should not make any demands for exemption from environmental, ecological or any social standards. These issues are bound to cause trouble for the company sooner or later, these are things that affect everyday lives of people around the company. The policy should uphold a disclosure of information policy that keeps constant CSR communication to the public this ids especially the case where the multinational is building face in a new location or venturing into a new businesses. This is best executed as follows: Regularly giving information about activities to be undertaken in the near future, the structures of the business and any anticipated or made changes, the financial situation of the company and the business results of the company. Care should however be taken as any misrepresentation of information whether i ntent or no can have really devastating impacts on the company. A case in point is where Healthsouth, the corporation falsified accounting reports so as to earn a good name. This brought the whole corporation down. In disclosure very high standards of quality when reporting is required ,the accounts and their audits should be according to the company laws and should conform to the expected standards. (Mallin, 2009, p.85) Multinationals should adopt an open policy as where the company publishes all the information that pertain the parent company its origins and other basic information that would give the company an open face. The ownership should also be considered with the percentages clearly declared this encourages good faith between the society and the multinational, the affiliates whether direct or indirect and shareholdings among them. (Paetzold, 2010, p.56) Employment and other social partners: The CRS of any company should ensure that it respects the International Labor Organization standards, which include the effective forbids child and forced labor, upholds the right of negotiation and collective bargaining, non-discrimination , prevention of sexual exploitation, and so on. The corporation should ensure its employees are represented in trade unions so as to be compliant to be labor friendly. Employees and social partners are perhaps the trickiest game of balance and should be carefully considered. Child and forced labor should no even be an issue but since multinationals traverse the world it is important to uphold policies against forced and child labor. The policy should not encourage but ban any slight sign of discrimination. The corporation should encourage effective and widespread collective agreement with the respective stakeholders, this should be clearly appended to the policy. The companys management should ensure a vis-Atilde;Â  -vis relationship w ith the workers or their representatives, this improves the likeability of the corporation and the performance of the employees and therefore the companys profitability. The policy should lay down a policy to ensure recruitment of local personnel and their training wherever their skills fall short of the expected levels of qualification. Environment: There is a great revolution regarding the preservation o f the environment, any corporation that does not respect the environments bound down and hard. The company especially one engaging in environmentally sensitive business a case in point being the BP oil spill that elicited a lot of commotion and was declared a national disaster. The company should adopt an environmental management system this should best take care of the events such as those of the oil spill where the disaster could have averted or the effects mitigated. The multinational should in its policy play big brother and ensure therein provisions meant to raise awareness and provide the public and its employees and the public on the possible effects of its undertaking on the environment inclusive of health and safety. This can also be enhanced by having a policy that carries a drift on the worst case scenario and a crisis plan so as to avert damage afflicted to the environment and or health. A case in point i s the case Royal Dutch Shell faced a big CSR crisis with the Sakhalin Oil disaster. Over and above all the multinational should train its employees continuously on matters that relate to the environment. Combating Corruption Corruption is a killer of customer social responsibility and could bring even a multinational to its knees. It should therefore be shunned since its potent is beyond imagination .A case in point is the Arthur Andersen that went down with Enron corporation, the partnership went down due to accounting fraud. To effect this corporate social responsibility policy should ensure that no payment is made to officials or to employees of business partners, management control systems that discourage the culture of bribery and any other forms of corruption should be adopted, this eliminates if not reducing the possibility of going down with the ship of corruption. The corporate social responsibility should also ensure that no illegal donations to any candidates contesting public office. This insures the company is ridded of dirty smears that could cause corporate social responsibility crises. Consumer interests The multinationals can improve their corporate social responsibility by improving their products so as to ensure the clients are satisfied with their products. Consumer interests should come to fore in corporate social responsibility since they are a major cause of corporate social responsibility flops. Ensuring the safety of products is key to a successful corporate social responsibility. If there is something that will jeopardize a multinationals reputation and its brands it has got to be the safety of its products. A case in point is in 1977 when the Ford Corporation in the production of Ford Pinto, faulty fuel tanks that gave in at the neck of the tank filler causing it to break off, puncturing the fuel tank and leading to deadly fires. This called for recalls that are always costly let alone the tainting of the brand. Toyota also recently had the same problem marked by brake faults in their vehicles. The corporation should also ensure there is preciseness and clarity in providing product information this eliminates the possibility of misunderstanding of their products hence protecting customer interests. The corporation should also ensure that they effectively handle complaints so as to protect customer interests. A desk should be dedicated for customer service. This ensures the corporation gets feedback on what it should or should not do. The policy should accommodate customers opinions as the are the reason for what they do. The multinational in a bid to ensure upright CSR should ensure that it does not engage in ant-competitive agreement that paint a bad image on it. This could cause aggression and negative publicity from owners of competing and perhaps smaller businesses that cause make the corporations operations disadvantaged. Conclusion. CSR policy is a key issue in the success of a multinational and should been taken into key considerations so as to ensure the products success in the market.

Fast Food Case Study - 1039 Words

Fast Food restaurants have been around for many years and have developed over the time to meet consumer’s needs. The basic fundamentals of fast food have not changed; deliver food to customers as fast as possible. Eating fast food is something that I have not done in over four years. I decided to take a friend of mine to help me evaluate Burger King and McDonalds. Both of these restaurants are similar in many ways but also have many differences when it comes to taking orders. The production process of both restaurants is very different because of this the results are very different and customer satisfaction is affected. Customer expectations are the same of both restaurants but both have different ending results because of the service that†¦show more content†¦All hamburgers are put together after a customer puts their order in. At McDonalds a customer order their food at a register and while the customer waits there the same employee puts the order together. When the store is busy this causes lines to get backed up, also if a customer needs a re-fill they must have an employee do it unlike Burger King. Customer and employee satisfaction can make or break any company. If things are done correctly the first time, it will save customer irritation, taking care of the customer is important. Both establishments should give employees the power to do whatever it takes to make customers happy. The biggest recommendation I could give is to McDonalds environment. The environment was load as employees were yelling back and forth while the seating area was dull and noisy. Burger King has music playing in the seating area which believe it or not cuts down on the noise. In conclusion, both establishments have been around for decades are the two top most successful fast food chains in the world. The food may be similar but the production, service and atmosphere is very different. Customer exceptions of both Burger King and McDonalds are the same but after a visit from both customer will have a different feeling of satisfaction. Burger King is works more towards customer satisfaction as they make every order after the customer orders it and they ensure the order is correct by giving each customer a receipt before the food isShow MoreRelatedFast Food Case Study Iscom/471 Essay938 Words   |  4 PagesFast Food Case Study Burger King and McDonalds’ are two different fast food restaurants that both serve hamburger and fries, in a fast and friendly environment that is affordable. Who Fired at Lexington and Concord Free Essays

Who Fired At Lexington? Who fired first at Lexington? This question seems to remain a mystery until now, but after much research, and answer has been decided. After scouring through many affidavits, maps, paintings, and such, I have learned that the most logical answer is that the King’s troops, or the British, were the ones who opened fire unto the colonial troops. There is credible testimony as well as a piece of art that leads to this conclusion. We will write a custom essay sample on Who Fired at Lexington and Concord or any similar topic only for you Order Now To begin with, there are two witnesses to the Battle at Lexington and Concord that openly admit to the British being the ones to first open fire. John Parker, the commander of the militia in Lexington, accounts that upon hearing that the British troops were approaching he gave orders to his men to â€Å"disperse and not to fire†. He then also recalls that his men were rushed by the British troops who opened fire and killed eight of their party without receiving any provoking from the militia in Lexington. Another man, Simon Winship gives account of his experience on the night of the Battle at Lexington and Concord. He states that he was riding his horse on the public road in Lexington, unarmed, when he was approached by the British troops and ordered to dismount his horse. When he asked why, he was removed from his horse by force from the British commanders. The commanding men ordered Winship to march with the troops. He refused, but somehow ended up marching with them for half of a quarter of a mile. The troops were told to halt, prime and load their weapons. The troops then marched on until they came into contact with Captain Parker’s militia. He then recounts that an officer at the head of the said British troops, â€Å"flourished his sword, and with a loud voice, giving the word fire, fire, which was instantly followed by a discharge of arms from said troops†. Winship accounts that he is positive that there was no discharge of arms from either side until the word fire was given by the said officer. A painting also gave credible representation of the events that occurred that night. The painting clearly displays the King’s regiment, marching into the space that was occupied by the colonists. The Colonial troops, dispersed and held their ground without provoking the red coats to attack. The commander of the British troops, is shown atop his horse waving his sword in the air as to commence the attack on the Colonial troops. It is obvious as demonstrated by the evidence, that the King’s troops were the offending party which opened fire on the Colonial troops. Even though there was testimony accounting that the Colonial troops were the ones to open fire, they were discounted as credible due to their biased position. This has led to companies operating in PNG promoting their products in the event and recording good results. Marketing of Morobe Show The event has been marketed in different websites to persuade and inform attendance of the Show. The organization has majorly invested in internet marketing to reach a large audience both locally and internationally. Morobe Show uses Trans Niugini Tours and Papua New Guinea Travels. The websites used for marketing are updated with detailed information about the event that creates expectations to the potential attendance. These websites are touring websites that visited my tourists visiting PNG. Since these websites are mostly visited by tourist providing them with information on the upcoming interesting events in the province enables them to schedule visit to the show. This helps the tourist to easily access information and they are facilitated to attend the event by the touring companies. These touring websites are integrated to offer full hospitality to tourist enabling them to move around and have the best visits in the country (Keurs, 2006). The marketing strategy exercised by Mo robe Show is appropriate for the event because it connects the tourists to the event. The websites offer a worldwide advertisement of the event reaching more audience around the world. This encourages both international audiences and participants to the event. From this marketing of Morobe Show, it recommendable that the organizers of the event prepare a video advertisement to be displayed in these websites instead of just words. This is because videos showing past event are more likely to create anxious to attend the event than reading. The marketers of the show should also consider extending marketing in the catering websites. These catering websites are also highly attended by tourist and engagement in a cultural event would create an admirable associate. Competitors Papua New Guinea is rich in culture and has several events running in the country throughout the year. These events include the following; Mt Hagen Cultural Sow that is to be held in Mt Hagen, Morobe Yam Festival to be held in Lae and Zumin pottery Exhibitions also in Lae (May, 2004). These events are schedules to reoccur every year though different dates with Morobe Show. These competitors are different from Morobe Show because they have specialized in different set of events. For instance, Mt Hagen Cultural Show has in depth cultural showcase that bring together different tribal participants in the region creating a large number of following. It therefore the job of the organizers of Morobe Show to keep the event attracting more and more attendances to maintain an upward graph. According to event lifecycle, the Morobe Show is at the peak with large participants and attendances. The growth of attendance is at a slow rate as compared to two decades ago (Mckinnon et al, 2008). This stage in the event lifecycle indicate that if the does not enhance it marketing strategies it can start declining in terms of events and attendances. Therefore, the organizers should strategize on meeting standards and making the show more interesting by adding events and marketing wi dely to receive more attendances. It is from these facilitations that the event has been able to reach more potential attendances resulting to an increase by 8% in 2008 Show (Stanley, 2007).
